Making Memories this Holiday Season

As we count down the days till Christmas Day, we'd like to take the time to encourage you to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season to really enjoy time with your child.

Too often parents, overwhelmed with the desire to make their child's wishes come true and have the perfect gift under the tree, allow the stress to limit their playtime with their children.

Here are some fun, and simple crafts that will give you the chance to have quality time with your child.  Remember, sometimes, its those simple moments that will take your breathe away.  Take these opportunities to let your child know how important they are.

A Handprint Christmas Tree

1. Trace your child’s handprint. Cut this out and use it as a template to create 9 more handprint cut-outs. If you are working with small children this sort of thing should be done ahead of time so you don’t lose their interest.

2. Glue the handprints so that they slightly overlap. You want 4 handprints on the bottom row, then 3 on the next, then 2, then just one on the top. Position the handprints so that the tree gets smaller as it gets taller – like a real tree does.

3. Add a star to the top and a brown trunk to the bottom.

4. Have your child decorate the tree however they would like.

Picture Frame Ornament

1. Print our template and cut it out. Cut the center piece out as well.

2. Fold a piece of construction paper. Line the template up so that one edge of it is along the fold, and trace it onto the paper. Cut along the outside of the piece. You should have an ornament shape that opens like a book.

3. Now cut out the inside piece (where your picture will go). Make sure to only cut out one side of the ornament (ie: one side of the book).
4. Have your child decorate the ornament however they would like. We used craft foam pieces.

5. Place your photo into the ornament either vertically or horizontally and then glue the edges shut.

6. Tape a ribbon on the back of the frame and hang it on your tree.

These crafts are fun and easy to do at home.  It will help keep your kiddos busy during the holiday break and most importantly, it will give you the chance to create memories that will benefit them a lifetime.

On behalf of Red Door, we wish you and your family a blessed Christmas!
