Family Games On-the-Go

Do you have a young child in the family? Then you know too well that

there are only so many hours in a day and often it’s just not enough time

to squeeze in the fun. From carpools to bath time, our schedules are

jam-packed full of errands and chores that is hard to show our kids our

fun side. We encourage you to take the time to sit down and enjoy your

children’s childhood, because before you know it, they will be grown.

So here are some fun games and activities you can play with your child

when you're on the go.  Take every opportunity to make loving memories

with your child.  Whether you a driving, shopping, or cooking dinner

these activities are sure to make you a part o the fun!

The following ideas can cover all areas of development, are low

or no-cost, and require minimal supplies.

Counting Colors on the Road.

Choose a color for a vehicle. The first person to call out a chosen buzz word (i.e. Beep, beep!) when they see a vehicle of that color earns 5 points. The first person to reach 25 points chooses the radio station or CD.

Travel Bingo in the Car.

With a piece of paper, a clipboard, and an attached pencil, you can create an easy Bingo game. Before the ride, create a 5x5 table with pictures and words of common things seen while driving (i.e. stop sign, mail box, bicycle, etc.). Use simple drawings or just words for older children who are readers. The game doesn’t have to be completed in one sitting and can be worked on over a period of time.

Food Guessing Game at the Dinner Table.

Have on person think of a food that starts with a particular letter.  For example, "E". Then the others have to guess what that food item could be.  The guesses can be hilarious! â€‹

Eye Spy at the Grocery Store

As you are on each aisle, pick an item that you "spy with your little eye" and allow you child to guess what it is.  You can describe the color, flavor, size, etc.  This is a great learning game that can be adapted to suit your child's development.

As always, we encourage you spend quality family time together!  These are memories that will last your child a lifetime!
